Highway Department
The Barnes County Highway Department is responsible for the efficient planning, design, construction and maintenance of roads, bridges and culverts within the County of Barnes. The Department provides for the overall management, direction, coordination and budgeting for approximately 330 miles of County black top and gravel roads. There are 20 full-time employees and 3 part-time seasonal employees on staff.

Road Restrictions: Effective May 3rd, 2021 @ 7:00 AM Spring Road Restrictions will be lifted on county asphalt highways with the exception of county road 27 South (Peak) and county road 17 South (Old #1). County road 27 South will remain restricted at 6 tons per axle & 35 MPH. Barnes County 17 South is restricted to light duty vehicles only. NO TRUCKS. County gravel roads will remain under restrictions until further notice.
