Emergency Management is a comprehensive effort coordinating a wide range of public safety and awareness programs to ensure that a high level of preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery will be maintained for all known hazards. Continuous assessment, planning, training and exercising is undertaken involving public agencies and the public sector. In doing this, a partnership with a good working relationship is formed with local emergency response agencies, such as fire, law enforcement, emergency medical services, public health, public works, and volunteer agencies. These joint events bring about an awareness of each other's capabilities and limitations.

May 6th, 2008

Barnes County Commissioners have declared a Fire Emergency Order and Burn Ban that is in effect when the Fire Index is in the High to Extreme category or when the winds are greater than 20 miles per hour.  Any burning that takes place from the time the burn ban is in effect, even when the conditions on the Fire Index are more favorable, must be cleared ahead of time with the fire chief in that jurisdiction and must also be called in to Barnes County Dispatch as a controlled burn.

To check the Fire Index, the following website is available:  http://www.nd.gov/des/info/firedanger.html or call Barnes County Dispatch at (701) 845-3110 or Barnes County Emergency Management at (701) 845-8510.

Any person who willfully violates the burning ban established by this resolution is guilty of an infraction, punishable by a fine of up to $500.00, and restitution of fire suppression costs may be sought from the court.
